בִּינִיתָאf. (cmp. בִּינָא III; P. Sm. 520) binitha; 1) a small fish (collect.). B. Kam.19b חמרא דאכל ב׳ an ass that swallowed fish (something unusual). B. Mets.79b bot. ב׳ אכרסה תקלא according to the size of its belly is the weight of fish (if you buy by weight, have the belly first removed; diff. in Ar.). Ib. 59b bot. (prov.) if one has a hanged one in his family, say not in his presence זקוף בי׳ hang the fish up; Yalk. Ex. 349 בונתא (corr. acc.); ib. Lev. 617 בֵּנִיתָא. Gitt.69b (masc.!) ניתי ב׳וכ׳ let him take fish and roast it in the smithy.Bets.28a שב בֵּנִיתָא (Var. בִּינְיָיתָא pl., נוניתא, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 9). 2) name of a worm. Macc.16b ב׳ דבי כרבא (Ms. M. מניתא) a worm found between cabbage. Sabb.139b ב׳ some ed., v. צינייתא. 3) hair; v. בִּינְתָא II.
